The Weekend Roundup

The best cookies I've ever baked
Feelin Hot Hot Hot OPI polish
Clarins Instant Self Tanning Gel

I wanted to get a nice little post up with a couple of my favourite pictures from this weekend just for some fun. I had such a nice weekend - my boyfriend lives up North whereas I’m South and so we try to spend the weekend together whenever we can. This weekend he came down here and we went shopping together along with my mum and went to Ed’s Diner for lunch which was gorgeous (I had a hot dog with onions omnomnom). We also spent some time with friends and just generally chilled out - one of our favourite things to do!

In other news I finally got around to making the now famous cookies following Vivianna Does Makeup’s recipe. They are delicious. I am munching on one as we speak. I got into some fun beauty stuff too like doing my nails while I watched TV with my mum. I used a blunt cocktail stick to make the dots... hey, I’m resourceful(?)! and the colour photographed is also currently on my toes. Just so you know, I rarely make the effort to do my toenails nicely which means that spring must be on it’s way! And lastly, I finally put my new self tanner to use. I won’t give too much away about this one because I do want to do a full review/how to on it but I just couldn’t keep it to myself!!!

This post has actually been a lot of fun to write. Who knows, maybe I’ll do it again next week?! No pressure, and a chance to share any extra photos that don’t quite warrant a full post in themselves.

Did you guys have a fun weekend? Tell me about it!

FOUNDATION PICK: RIMMEL WAKE ME UP FOUNDATION

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation Review
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation Bottle

I know that recently this has been a particular favourite among beauty bloggers for a while as far as drug store foundations go and I can see why...

I like my expensive foundations. What can I say? I have combination skin which often verges on the dry side. Ever since getting into makeup I have loved using Nars Sheer Glow and Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser in particular. What can I say? I likes my dewey skin! Drug store foundations can be a bit hit and miss in my opinion (hmm as are high end foundations I suppose?!) but boy oh boy this did not disappoint. Rimmel Wake Me Up Foudation had been on my wish list for a while and I finally bought it a few weeks ago and have worn it nearly every day since. My skin has not reacted negatively in any way, which is pretty good as it’s not really used to wearing foundation so frequently.

In terms of finish it’s gorgeous - it’s not as dewey as Nars Sheer Glow but it still gives a nice healthy glow to the skin. I find that upon application it can appear slightly yellow-toned compared to my skin tone but once blended it looks a lot more natural. I’ve been applying this with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush which gives a medium coverage, but that can be built upon slightly without looking or feeling cakey. It also has a slight fresh scent to it - if you have super sensitive skin this could be a problem, but my skin can be quite fussy and I’ve had no issues at all.

The only complaint I would have with this foundation is it’s lasting power - I’m not one for heavily powdered skin but if you work a long day then a bit of powder is a must, especially if you have oily skin. I wore this on a night out once with nothing but a little bit of bronzer (probably a mistake anyway) and by the end of the night my boyfriend said that he thought it was looking a little patchy - I would probably put that down to greeting lots of people. It seems to last pretty well with some of my Mac Mineralise Skinfinish Natural.

I’m almost positive that I will be repurchasing this foundation - it’s a really nice substitute for my Nars Sheer Glow when I’m a little short on money. If you love a healthy glow but you’re a poor little student like me you should definitely pick one up from Boots (£8.99).

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think?

Foam Call Bath & Shower Gel by Soap and Glory

Foam Call Shower and Bath Gel by Soap and Glory
Foam Call Shower and Bath Gel by Soap and Glory

I’ve been on a love affair with shower gels for a few months now, and while you may all know about my love of Philosophy shower gels I decided to branch out a little bit. Soap and Glory is a brand that most of us know and trust, and so who better to turn to for our showerly needs?

One thing that I look for in a good shower gel is a good lather. We all love a good lather. Wow, that sounded dirty. Anyway, the Foam Call Bath and Shower gel certainly doesn’t disappoint in that department. I use the pink lufer that came with the gel (in a gift set) which makes it doubly foamy. The scent is fairly light, sweet and fruity. The bottle claims to have notes of jungle pomelo essence (whatever that is), orange oil, green fig and frozen yuzu (is that even a thing?!). Well I can’t vouch for most of those, but I can definitely smell a bit of orange in there. The best part? It’s super moisturising!

And the packaging of course can't go without a mention - the retro inspired packaging that Soap and Glory goes for is super cute andit uses a cheery colour scheme making it fun to have sitting in my shower. This product ticks all the right boxes and for £6.50 you can’t really go wrong. If like me you love your lather, then give it a go :)

Have any of you tried this? Do you love Soap and Glory as much as I do?

Quick Rave: Del Sol Polish

Sorry guys, but unless you’re in the States you won’t actually be able to purchase the product I’m showing you today but it was just too cool for me to keep it to myself! Quick Rave: Del Sol Polishes
Del Sol Del Sol
Del Sol Polish over: Pandamonium (limited edition) and Mint Candy Apple

Del Sol is a company that I was first drawn to when I was on holiday in America when I was little - the novelty of the company is that they sell merchandise that changes colour when exposed to UV rays (sunlight). Although some of their products aren’t quite as exciting to me now as they were when they were seven, I was still super excited when my parents brought me a Del Sol nail polish from their recent holiday.

This nail polish looks like a regular glitter polish when it’s in the bottle, but add sunlight and voila! It turns a lovely pink colour. The shade is called Ruby Slipper and unfortunately I haven’t managed to get it to the ruby red that it claims to go to on the website - blame the English weather. Perhaps there’s a reason they only sell this abroad.

Del Sol Out of the SunDel Sol in the Sun - it changes colour!

The polish itself isn’t at all gloopy and applies really nicely. I’ve been enjoying putting it over pastel colours which looks lovely. You can go with one coat for a more subtle look, or build it up to around three shades which I think would look lovely as an accent nail on your manicure. You can wear the polish by itself and it would take around four coats to get it to a more opaque colour. I think this works better as a top coat though, and it has increased the life expectancy of my manicures. Because the polish is made up of tiny glitter particles it doesn’t feel overly grainy unlike other glitter polishes.

I understand that this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re in America I’d highly recommend picking one up! What do you think of the idea of a colour changing nail polish?

My Face Diaries: Spring Calls (Makeup Tutorial / FOTD)

Spring Calls Makeup
My Makeup My Makeup Products photographed above: Mac lipglass - Naked pigment in Sierra Nevada #2 - Maybelline Gel Liner - Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - Purple Haze eyeshadow - Fig 1 eyeshadow - Coastal Scents 88 Ultra Shimmer Palette

I was in a super springy mood yesterday. The sun was shining, there was a slight breeze and the daffodils were swaying. I got all inspired and decided to do a little impromptu colourful makeup look. I was really pleased with the result and it didn’t take long at all, I should really set more time aside to do things like this because it makes me happy :)

The Eyes
I started off with the eyes as when working with bright colours you’re likely to get a lot of fall out which could ruin your foundation. I used a pencil brush to take a bright yellow from my Coastal Scents palette a third of the way across the inner eyelid and the same distance under the tear duct area. Next I used a lilac (Purple Haze by Mac) on a flat shader brush across the rest of the lid and up to the socket. I used a darker matte purple (Fig 1) on a Mac 217 across the outer socket and blended it into the lid colour. I decided to use a bright blue on the centre of the lower lash line and a deeper blue on the outer third of the lower lash line to blend the blue into the purple. I made a thin line across my top lash line with my Maybelline gel liner in black and added a little to my outer lower lash line before curling my lashes and using lots of my Maybelline “The Falsies” mascara. If you go for bright shadow it’s important to contrast it with dark liner and thick lashes.

The Face
Next I added my favourite foundation and concealer (careful not to smudge any eyeshadow!) and powdered over it to make it easier to add the powder blush. I actually used more eyeshadows from my Coastal Scents Palette to get the colours I wanted for my blush, which also added a beautiful sheen to my skin. I applied the blush on the tops of my cheek bones in an elongated C shape going toward my temple. I started with pink on the apple of the cheek (don’t smile when you apply this or the colour will drop when you relax your muscles), then a light purple in the middle and a bright, light blue nearer the temples. Blend out the edges with your powder brush until you reach the intensity you want.

The Lips
The lips were really fun to do. Put a bit of any clear lipgloss on the back of your hand (I used Mac’s Lipglass) and add a pinch of gold pigment - Barry M is a cheap option but I used my one of my Naked pigments. Now mix together with a lip brush and apply - I didn’t think that this would suit my skin but it looked amazing!

I think my favourite bit of the look is the wonderful sheen the sunlight picks up on my cheek, and how the yellow really opens up the eye :) Unfortunately this is a little loud for an every day look for me, but I can always share this sort of thing with you guys!

This is the first of a new series that I'm hoping to continue called "Face Diaries", just to share with you what makeup I've been wearing/experimenting with each week.
So what do you guys think?

Mini Beauty Treats

Sneaky Easter Treats

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, Daisy by Marc Jacobs is one of my favourite spring scents. My bottle is unfortunately running out, so imagine my delight when I was given these little lovelies as an extra Easter treat!

Mini Daisy by Marc Jacobs Gift Set Mini Daisy by Marc Jacobs Gift Set Mini Daisy by Marc Jacobs Gift Set

One thing that tends to really bother me about perfumes is that you have to pick between a bottle that looks pretty, and one that’s easy to carry around. These solve that problem perfectly, and just think how cute these will look on my window sill! This gift set includes four 4ml bottles, and as far as I can tell they all have exactly the same fragrance. The only downside is that like many mini perfumes these are applied my tipping the bottle upside down onto your wrists (or wherever) as it doesn’t have a spray mechanism. This will make it tricky to apply to the neck area, but who can really resist these little gems? They’re just perfect for Easter!

I had a lovely weekend spending time with my parents and my boyfriend who came to stay, and of course eating lots and lots of chocolate for the first time in weeks (I gave it up for lent). Best of all the weather held up and we got a little glimpse of summer.

What did you guys get up to over Easter weekend? Did you get any sneaky extra treats?

How to (Boyfriend Edition): Make your Girlfriend Look Silly

My Boyfriends Does my Makeup My Boyfriends Does my Makeup My Boyfriends Does my Makeup

I’ve seen quite a few of these “My Boyfriend Does my Makeup” tags going around and I thought that it looked like a lot of fun. So my boyfriend Phil and I decided to give it a go - I gave him free reign of my makeup collection (after a firm word about the sacredness of a girl’s makeup!), hid all mirrors from my view and let him get to it. I wanted to share some of the pictures with you and thought that April Fools Day would be the perfect occasion!

To achieve this... ahem... “editorial” look, you will need:

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation Coastal Scents 88 Ultra Shimmer Eye Shadow Palette Speed Dial lipstick by Mac

And a few makeup brushes - but maybe not your best ones, as this may get messy! I had no idea what was going on throughout this rather lengthy process, but my Mum managed to snap a few pictures of the work in progress.

I actually quite liked the makeup that Phil did, in a weird way it was quite, dare I say it... good? I think that he had fun too. We’re planning on giving this a go again and Phil trying to do a more serious look this time.

Have any of you guys tried this with your boyfriends/girlfriends/siblings/friends? I’d love to see your posts!
